Jesse McCartney: A Beautiful Soul

THIS MONTH, fourteen hundred palms began to sweat, seven hundred chokers strained against necks and thousands of frosted tips were blown back as Jesse McCartney, the original boy heartthrob (Bieber who?), 2000s crooner, and master of the messy bang took Stanford’s Dinkelspiel Auditorium by storm. Hit singer of singles like “Beautiful Soul,” “Shake,” and the voice of Theodore from Alvin and the-- Wait. He doesn’t need an intro. He’s Jesse McCartney.

PULSE Magazine was lucky enough to score a conversation with him. Hear his thoughts on teen fame, rabid fans, and remaining cool under the heat of the spotlight below.

PULSE: YOU HAVE AMPLE EXPERIENCE WITH CHILD FAME. NOW THAT YOU CAN LOOK BACK ON IT WITH MORE HINDSIGHT, WOULD YOU CHOOSE FAME AGAIN IF YOU COULD?

Jesse McCartney: I don’t know that I’d choose the fame aspect. However, I wouldn’t change pursuing something I was so passionate about just because I was young.  I think motivating a child to find something they love early in life can give them a jumpstart in many ways.

P: IF YOU WEREN'T A MUSICIAN, WHAT CAREER WOULD YOU HAVE PURSUED? ANY CURRENT HOBBIES?

JM: I would have loved to have been a baker. Or a Pastry Chef. Anything with food really. My current hobbies include brewing and concocting my own teas and discovering new foods at Farmer’s markets.

P: WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING A FAN HAS DONE ON STAGE?

JM: I’ve been tackled a couple times.  When I was younger, I had my hair pulled out. You know...true fan love!

P: DO YOU STILL GET RECOGNIZED ON THE STREET?

JM: Yup. And I’m always pretty approachable, as long as it’s not before I’ve gotten some coffee in the morning.

P: DO YOU HAVE ADVICE FOR THE CURRENT GENERATION OF YOUNG CHILD STARS, WHO MAY BE ABOUT TO HIT BIG?

JM: Everyone’s watching and probably expecting you to slip up.  And more than likely, you will. Try to learn and improve from it.  Your teenage self can’t possibly know that what you’re doing is stupid cause you’re just a teenager.  You’ll make mistakes.  But do your best! And when you get older, you can you tell the next kid the same thing!

P: WHAT INTERVIEW QUESTION DO YOU HATE TO RECIEVE

JM: This one ;)

From decades of touring, releasing new music, and maintaining a spotless track record, Jesse McCartney’s built up no shortage of wisdom. McCartney’s wholesome persona and humble outlook are what keeps fans going back to him, even after decades.  Thanks to Jesse for answering PULSE Magazine's questions!
